Happy Friday loves,

Are we really about to wrap up another month? It seems like September was here just yesterday. If anything, I’m very excited to welcome October! Guess who’s birthday is coming up in few days!? Yup, this girl, right here! 😉 Besides, I don’t know why, but Fall gets me in all types of festive and fashionable moods and I’m always here for it!

Neutral hues are a fall must-have and even though this outfit isn’t your typical Fall Fashion look, I was able to get away with it, as we were still experiencing summer-like temperatures most days! However, the temperature is starting to drop, especially early mornings and late afternoons, which means you guys can expect to see more fall transitional looks in the days to come.

Anyway, I couldn’t help but take this off-shoulder lace top home when I stumbled upon it. I loved everything from the peachy-mauve color to the exquisite and feminine lace and sleeves details.

I have been literally wearing this gorgeous flower statement necklace  everywhere lately.(See here) It is such an elegant and cute piece; and I think it was the perfect contrast to this lace top and the whole neutral look.

Another fun piece to this outfit is this yellow bucket bag. A nice pop of color and a subtle way to tone this minimalist chic look down a tiny bit. What are your thoughts about this look?

Top-black-beauty-bloggersHello loves!

The weather may feel like we are still in summer, but Fall is definitely here! When you think “Fall”, do you happen to think about skin care especially for your face? I know there’s no definite season when you should take serious care of your skin, but for me, I feel like with winter around the corner, I have to put in the extra work! The dry and cold air in the Midwest is just too harsh not to think about protecting your skin. I have tried a few skin care products from drugstores to the brand names and I can say that I came to understand a few things about skin care routine.

  • Cleansing: Cleansing is a very important part of your skin care routing. Did your mom yell at you countless times to wash your face everyday?  Mom was right! Washing your face is critical for a healthy and good looking skin. It helps eliminate waste and toxins. Find a great face cleanser that will not dry out your face and help support its regularity. – Take a look at some cleansers below.

  • Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!  Even when you have an oily to combination skin you still have to keep your skin moisturized! Find a good moisturizer, possibly with SPF for daytime and apply on your face daily. You can also have a night time moisturizer or serum. A good night moisturizer or serum will hydrate and reveal natural radiance in the morning.

  • Exfoliating: Exfoliating your skin will take you a long way; and your skin will thank you for it. You want to remove the dead skin on your face at least once a week.

  • Hydrating: I know you’ve heard this many times, but yes, your skin needs to be hydrated! Drinking a good amount of good old dear water is the best and most efficient way to keep your skin always hydrated; and drinking water doesn’t have to be “painful” anymore. You can opt for fruits or herbs-unfused water to make it more bearable if you’re not a big fan of plain Jane water. 🙂 Another way to keep your skin fresh and hydrated is spraying facial water on your face when needed.

  • Face Mask: From pore-cleansing clay masks that lift oil and impurities to super-hydrating sheet masks that flood skin with essential moisture, face masks are an essential part of your beauty regimen and  each treatment can reveal a healthy and glowing complexion.

  •  Sunscreen: Sunscreen is not optional. This is a myth in the black community; and I hope everyone gets to know and understand that black or not, sunscreen is very important for the ultimate health of the skin. Let’s educate ourselves on the matter. –  Experts say even in colder seasons, we need to protect our skin against the Ultra Violet rays which can be pretty harmful even when the sun is not out.

Well, I hope you take something away from this post. Stock up on your favorite moisturizers, and drink up!

What are  your favorite Fall beauty staples, and what skin care routine do you adopt ? Do share.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Wednesday!

As I’m writing between the lines to get this post out, I have tons of other things on my to-do list that need to be done. Will I get it all done today? The truth, is I may not get it all done today, but I will still have the things I haven’t been able to crossed off the list on my next to-do-list until I meet my goals. Sometimes, I may even shift things around due to certain circumstances after I determine which needs to go first or which one can wait. See where I’m going?

One question I’m often times asked is: “How do you do it, Edwige? How do you balance it all… ?” The truth is, I don’t! Yes, I’m wearing a lot of hats right now, and I get that I probably make it all look easy. But is it really easy? No, it’s not. That’s a discussion for a whole ‘Nother day. Lol.

“Why do I say I don’t balance it all, yet I seem to make things look easy?” you would ask. Well, “Balance” is defined as a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions. So it’s safe for me to say that I don’t live a balanced life right now. Everything that I have going on right now is not “balanced”- that is far from the truth.

From experience and from what I have learned throughout the years, especially in my blogging and entrepreneurial years, it is not about balancing it all, but rather about prioritizing. And to the people who often asked “how do you balance it all”, that is always my answer; I don’t balance! I prioritize… And since I believe that “passion” is our driven force, don’t be surprised if the word passion, somehow finds its way to that response.

In all seriousness, I don’t think there’s such a thing as “balance it all” at least not to me in this period of my life. It’s all about making certain things a priority at different moments, as long as it is in synchronization with my life’s events and in accordance with my partner and my family.

At this moment, I’m writing this blog post, and making sure it goes live at a certain date and time, and that’s my priority at this time. My next goal is to take a little breather after completion of this task and then serve dinner in about an hour and a half… That will be my priority, then. So basically, each moment, each day, each week or month or even year is called for different priorities; and in order for me to achieve my goal, I set these priorities forth.

prints-dashiki-maxi-dress

I can guarantee you that, it’s not always as smooth or easy as I sound right now. Sometimes, I would have tons of things on my agenda that need to be done in a certain period of time or a due date; and that would be one of those days or weeks that seems almost impossible to meet, let alone exceed any expectation, but like I mentioned earlier, when those moments of frustration arise, I would need to sit down and really study my agenda and shift my priorities around in order for me to achieve my goal(s).

Things can get really overwhelming and stressful; and I think I will go crazy if I try to “balance” everything all at once. Or maybe that’s me balancing it all, doing what I believe works best for me and my family? Ultimately, we can only do so much; and I’m learning to take that step back and re-evaluate everything when needed.

Let’s talk about this dress! I know you were all wondering if I would ever get to it. 😛 Well, here we are!
It’s called Oye Maxi Dress, and I’m here for it! Merry, the brain behind the brand Nomose Couture  has done an incredible job with this off-shoulder maxi dress.

I have seen the short and top version (which are both cute), but I’m obsessed with this maxi version! I feel I can style it over and over and still reach out to it without hesitation. I could go one or two size smaller but it doesn’t take away from the dress.

It comes in a few other fabrics which are all beautiful and difficult to choose from. I’m contemplating getting this dress in one of the other fabrics… what do you say? A lady can’t have too many dresses, right? Hahaha. -This dress is selling out so fast and I know they just restocked again, so if you want one, go grab yours before you regret it. 😉

Today’s post was another long one, and thank you very much if you made it to its end. So, what are your thoughts about the topic of “prioritizing over balancing”? Does that sound about right to you? Let me know in the comment session below.

What I love the most about this paisley maxi dress is how versatile and comfortable it is! Yes, the red and plum paisley print is beautiful; and the removable scarf is a nice addition, but when I laid my eyes on this dress, I immediately fell in love and saw myself wearing it with flip-flops to a barbecue or heels to a Summer wedding! Now this dress wouldn’t necessary be my type of dress as a wedding guest, but sometimes a girl just wants to be simple, comfortable, and down to earth without necessary sacrificing (her) style.

I was hesitant at first when I styled it for a friend’s wedding last August, but it felt so comfortable and forgiving that I didn’t even want to change it into something more formal and sophisticated. I Absolutely love this dress.

It is incredibly flattering with the empire waist; and I am glad the shoulder straps are adjustable. The fit was perfect, not too tight in the bust since it has a big elastic panel in the back. And guess what it has pockets. Pockets make every outfit perfect, right? 🙂

As you can see, I kept the accessories to a minimum and used the scarf as a chocker for that interesting and chic vibe.If you’re going for a more fun or that bohemian look, you can tie the scarf in your hair or you can use it as a ‘belt’ to cinch your waist for that define look or you can just ditch the scarf altogether, if you don’t feel it. Versatile much, right?

The funny thing is when I tried this paisley maxi dress on in the store, the sale lady oohed and aahed and said I looked like a goddess; and I just smiled and said ‘thank you’, thinking to myself she just wanted to make her sale… 🙂

Ironically, the day I wore this dress for my friend’s wedding, I received the exact same compliment from a complete stranger! 😀 Many others also commented on how pretty the pattern is and how beautiful I looked in the dress. I guess as the saying goes, sometimes, less is more. 😉
