Hello and happy new month, friends!

I Just can’t wrap my head around the fact that the year is closing to its end! To be honest with you, each and every month that has passed feels to me like it was just yesterday. The year has flown by so fast and there seemed to be a lot going on. I’ve got really busy with life, celebrated some good moments; and I can only be grateful for it all. October was my birthday month (read the dedicated post about it HERE) and I also got to celebrate two of my favorite people: my mom and my baby girl. They were both born on the same date (over half a century apart 🙂 ); and it’s such a special day for us. I shared a few pictures of my little diva on instagram… If you’re not following me there yet, you oughtta now! 🙂

Well, today’s post is a little recap of my style “escapades” this past month, but I also want to share with you  a word of wisdom. As we’re stepping into this month of November and getting closer and closer to a new year; remember that even though you can’t go back and make a brand new start, you can start now and make a brand new ending.

Don’t just focus on what can’t be done, what you can’t afford, or what you can’t do! Change your focus to what you CAN do, what resources you have, and what step you CAN take to move forward. This is as much of a “note to self” as a whisper of motivation. Admittedly, I’ve had to learn this the hard way a few times over in my life; and that is something I’m working on bettering myself at.

top-style-bloggerFull Post HERE

Everything doesn’t have to be perfect. You just need to start and you can better yourself up along the way. I’ve wasted a few years in overthinking and overanalyzing goals and projects that could have seen the light of day already, and who knows where it would have taken me or maybe become that “big new thing” today… 😀 Am I regretting it? No, simply because it won’t change anything… and the show must go on. Or maybe it just wasn’t God’s timing. Am I planning on taking more actions and stop overanalyzing things and waiting on everything to be perfect before I make my moves? Definitely yes!

top-black-style-bloggerFull Post HERE

Wanting it, is not enough. Dreaming about it is not enough. Talking about it is most certainly not enough. Only actions will propel you forward! It’s the one commonality across the lives of legends, game-changers, and movers and shakers. They decided, then they acted!

Where you are today is probably not a “coup du hasard” like we say in French, but where you want to be tomorrow can definitely be a perfectly calculated equation!

Together, let’s take actions toward our goals!

I hope this new month brings you lots of love and light!

XOXO

Fall is in full swing here now; and the temperature is dropping real fast! I’m starting to break into my Fall wardrobe; and according to the forecast we may be expecting our first batch of snow today! We are currently experiencing our first snow (showers) of the season. Boy, things are getting real serious! Ha!

Burgundy-pants-faux-fur

Don’t get me wrong, I love autumn, and I even claimed it to be one of my favorite seasons of all seasons… And yes, I still stand by that statement. 🙂

Truth is, as much as we wish or pray for changes, we are not always ready to welcome them. Simply because, sometimes we are so much at ease with the present (in this instance, the sunny days of summer) that when we’re starting to see changes (even good ones) pertaining to different scenarios, we have all these doubts, feelings and thoughts arising.

Top-black-style-blogger

Is it going to be ok? Is it going to be too cold? Isn’t it too good to be true? Is it going to be exactly what I wished for….. So many unanswered questions, that may leave us with the sentiment of discomfort or fear, fear of the unknown or the uncertainty.

Fall-fashion-inspiration

Whatever we experience in life, we must chose to flow with it, because it makes it so much easier and interesting. We must be flexible to changes happening in life. The more accepting we are of changes, the easier that feels.

Fall-fashion-inspiration

Change is inevitable, and unpredictable. In order to live a stress-free life, we must chose to accept the things we cannot change and allow for positive things to unfold in our life.

Top-black-style-blogger

Change is a natural aspect of life. Change is a sign of life, and life is a series of change. Change can be a good thing and we must be ready to embrace it.

fall-inspiration-outfitTherefor, change is also about taking risks and not being afraid to fall or fail, because the risks you decide not to take today can be one decision away from a totally different life.

What risks are you taking today? What changes are you making, or are happening in your life? Whatever that is, if you can’t do anything about it, embrace it.

top-minneapolis-bloggerHappy Tuesday beauties!

This chic orange and black ensemble has gotten me a few comments, the day I wore it. I have been stopped by total strangers who complimented my outfit and then one asked what I do for a living, and another recurring question was, what I’m up to for the day. Okaaay 🙂

top-black-style-blogger

Well, one of my responses to my nice encounters was: “I’m making some boss moves”. There was a few seconds of pause, then he smiled and said: “Oh! Boss Moves!?”; and of course that comment sparked the conversation!

Top-multicultural-blogger

top-multicultural-bloggerThe thing is, when I say that I’m making “Boss Moves”, you would automatically think that I’m out there taking huge actions, making things happen left and right, which, in theory, may be true. However, to me, making boss moves, could be as simple as working toward your goals and projects as little as they are or may seem, and deciding to keep going no matter how hard things may be or may get.

top-black -fashion-bloggersThe truth is , some days, we’re out there making real boss moves, and some other days, we dress the part and play the part, because who doesn’t want to “Faith it, untill they make it”?

Black-woman-in-work-outfit

chic-work-styleIn all modesty, every day, I’m proud and grateful for every little accomplishments, ideas that I have, or actions that I take, but at the end of the day, I’m just a girl who decided to go for it, and make things happen; and that, to me, is “boss moves”!

Top-black-style-blogger

That been said, to all the ladies out there, making some boss moves, big or small, BRAVO! Together we will be unstoppable!

So, what are your thoughts on making boss moves or living the boss life, ladies and gentlemen? Sounds off! 🙂

As I’m writing between the lines to get this post out, I have tons of other things on my to-do list that need to be done. Will I get it all done today? The truth, is I may not get it all done today, but I will still have the things I haven’t been able to crossed off the list on my next to-do-list until I meet my goals. Sometimes, I may even shift things around due to certain circumstances after I determine which needs to go first or which one can wait. See where I’m going?

One question I’m often times asked is: “How do you do it, Edwige? How do you balance it all… ?” The truth is, I don’t! Yes, I’m wearing a lot of hats right now, and I get that I probably make it all look easy. But is it really easy? No, it’s not. That’s a discussion for a whole ‘Nother day. Lol.

“Why do I say I don’t balance it all, yet I seem to make things look easy?” you would ask. Well, “Balance” is defined as a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions. So it’s safe for me to say that I don’t live a balanced life right now. Everything that I have going on right now is not “balanced”- that is far from the truth.

From experience and from what I have learned throughout the years, especially in my blogging and entrepreneurial years, it is not about balancing it all, but rather about prioritizing. And to the people who often asked “how do you balance it all”, that is always my answer; I don’t balance! I prioritize… And since I believe that “passion” is our driven force, don’t be surprised if the word passion, somehow finds its way to that response.

prints-dashiki-maxi-dress

prints-dashiki-maxi-dress

prints-dashiki-maxi-dress

In all seriousness, I don’t think there’s such a thing as “balance it all” at least not to me in this period of my life. It’s all about making certain things a priority at different moments, as long as it is in synchronization with my life’s events and in accordance with my partner and my family.

At this moment, I’m writing this blog post, and making sure it goes live at a certain date and time, and that’s my priority at this time. My next goal is to take a little breather after completion of this task and then serve dinner in about an hour and a half… That will be my priority, then. So basically, each moment, each day, each week or month or even year is called for different priorities; and in order for me to achieve my goal, I set these priorities forth.

prints-dashiki-maxi-dress

I can guarantee you that, it’s not always as smooth or easy as I sound right now. Sometimes, I would have tons of things on my agenda that need to be done in a certain period of time or a due date; and that would be one of those days or weeks that seems almost impossible to meet, let alone exceed any expectation, but like I mentioned earlier, when those moments of frustration arise, I would need to sit down and really study my agenda and shift my priorities around in order for me to achieve my goal(s).

prints-dashiki-maxi-dress

Things can get really overwhelming and stressful; and I think I will go crazy if I try to “balance” everything all at once. Or maybe that’s me balancing it all, doing what I believe works best for me and my family? Ultimately, we can only do so much; and I’m learning to take that step back and re-evaluate everything when needed.

Let’s talk about this dress! I know you were all wondering if I would ever get to it. 😛 Well, here we are!
It’s called Oye Maxi Dress, and I’m here for it! Merry, the brain behind the brand Nomose Couture  has done an incredible job with this off-shoulder maxi dress.

I have seen the short and top version (which are both cute), but I’m obsessed with this maxi version! I feel I can style it over and over and still reach out to it without hesitation. I could go one or two size smaller but it doesn’t take away from the dress.

It comes in a few other fabrics which are all beautiful and difficult to choose from. I’m contemplating getting this dress in one of the other fabrics… what do you say? A lady can’t have too many dresses, right? Hahaha. -This dress is selling out so fast and I know they just restocked again, so if you want one, go grab yours before you regret it. 😉

Today’s post was another long one, and thank you very much if you made it to its end. So, what are your thoughts about the topic of “prioritizing over balancing”? Does that sound about right to you? Let me know in the comment session below.

The quote above by Susan Falls-Hilles reminds me of how most of us are grappled by fear of the uncertain and sometimes, really prefer being in the phase of “status quo” that becomes our comfort zone.

Summer-casual-top-and-capri
The situation may well differ from one person to another but it comes down to the point where we sacrifice something for the sake of one other thing. Perhaps, it’s an unfulfilling job that we don’t like, yet we don’t want to leave because it pays the bills; or maybe it’s an abusive and unhealthy relationship that you have a hard time getting out of, because your financial freedom depends on it…

Summer-casual-top-and-capri

Whatever the case may be, when your gut tells you to move on, move right on and don’t be afraid of the uncertainty. In most cases, they say “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” or “Don’t rock the boat”, but like the author of this quote suggested, when it’s starting feeling too comfortable, especially when your life depends on it, it’s time to move on!

Summer-casual-top-and-capriThe fact is in most cases, while you may feel at ease in your comfort zone, it may actually be unhealthy to just stick with what has become the norm for you simply because it’s comfortable or familiar.

Summer-casual-top-and-capri

At the end of the day, we have only one life to live; and you risk going through it missing your purpose and not realizing your dreams.

Summer-casual-top-and-capri

While the uncertainty may seem frightening, you will never know what’s on the other side of the door, unless you muster up the courage to open it.

Summer-casual-top-and-capri

Some people may find this analogy to be flawed because they strongly believe in the statement: “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it”.  For others, however, it’s rather the continued setbacks and failures in their everyday life that have created a sentiment of fear or desperation disguised in the feeling of comfortability.

Reality is, at one point in our life, we all have experiment setbacks and failures. Eventually we get tired, drained, unmotivated or uninspired to keep trying or keep going. – Life has happened so much that we believe that because we haven’t been successful in the past, our chances of being successful at a new venture is nearly impossible.

Summer-casual-top-and-capriWe believe that there’s no reason to do more, to become more or be better. We continually see a barrier that separates us from our dreams, and we get so familiar with it that it becomes our reality.

Summer-casual-top-and-capri

Unfortunately, as a result, we become our own barrier… our worse enemy. We are too afraid of the uncertainty and we become too comfortable in our mediocrity.

Cute-summer-top-capri-pants

So, If you’re reading this today, I hope you already know that there’s no real barrier that separates us from our dreams and that it’s okay to dream big and expect more. We are created in the image of greatness; and it is in our right to want to be great. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Summer-casual-top-and-capri

Thank you for reading and cheers to fabulous week!

Love,

Edwige
