Reflections on being too comfortable

[Tweet theme=”basic-white”]”If you’re too comfortable, it’s time to move on. Terrified of what’s next? You’re on the right track!” – Susan Fall-Hilles.[/Tweet]

The quote above by Susan Falls-Hilles reminds me of how most of us are grappled by fear of the uncertain and sometimes, really prefer being in the phase of “status quo” that becomes our comfort zone.

The situation may well differ from one person to another but it comes down to the point where we sacrifice something for the sake of one other thing. Perhaps, it’s an unfulfilling job that we don’t like, yet we don’t want to leave because it pays the bills; or maybe it’s an abusive and unhealthy relationship that you have a hard time getting out of, because your financial freedom depends on it…
Whatever the case may be, when your gut tells you to move on, move right on and don’t be afraid of the uncertainty. In most cases, they say “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” or “Don’t rock the boat”, but like the author of this quote suggested, when it’s starting feeling too comfortable, especially when your life depends on it, it’s time to move on!
Summer-casual-top-and-capriThe fact is in most cases, while you may feel at ease in your comfort zone, it may actually be unhealthy to just stick with what has become the norm for you simply because it’s comfortable or familiar.

At the end of the day, we have only one life to live; and you risk going through it missing your purpose and not realizing your dreams.

While the uncertainty may seem frightening, you will never know what’s on the other side of the door, unless you muster up the courage to open it.

Some people may find this analogy to be flawed because they strongly believe in the statement: “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it”.  For others, however, it’s rather the continued setbacks and failures in their everyday life that have created a sentiment of fear or desperation disguised in the feeling of comfortability.

Reality is, at one point in our life, we all have experiment setbacks and failures. Eventually we get tired, drained, unmotivated or uninspired to keep trying or keep going. – Life has happened so much that we believe that because we haven’t been successful in the past, our chances of being successful at a new venture is nearly impossible.

Summer-casual-top-and-capriWe believe that there’s no reason to do more, to become more or be better. We continually see a barrier that separates us from our dreams, and we get so familiar with it that it becomes our reality.

Unfortunately, as a result, we become our own barrier… our worse enemy. We are too afraid of the uncertainty and we become too comfortable in our mediocrity.

So, If you’re reading this today, I hope you already know that there’s no real barrier that separates us from our dreams and that it’s okay to dream big and expect more. We are created in the image of greatness; and it is in our right to want to be great. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Thank you for reading and cheers to fabulous week!

Summer chic | The little orange dress

Happy Wednesday beauties,

Do you remember when I share my excitement here about the Victoria Beckham collections for Target? Read all about it HERE! Well, this Summer Style Short Dress is a piece of the women collections.

This little dress right here is one of my favorite from the whole collection. The color is so vibrant, and I think the scallops details on the top part of the dress is ultra-cute.

The flounce hem gives a bit of femininity and shape to the dress, which I think could have be maybe boxy if it wasn’t for that detail.

I was amazed by the fit and quality of this short summer dress designed by the Queen of Posh. I think she did an incredible job, making her collections very affordable and attainable to the rest of us!

This summer chic dress has become one of my favorite and I can’t believe how many compliments I’ve received every time I wear it.

The best part is when I tell people I got it at Target, I would see their jaws completely dropping. Lol – Unfortunately, the last time I checked, it looked like the collection was totally sold out or unavailable.

I’m just glad I was able to get my hands on a few of my top picks before they were gone!

Believe me, I could’ve made a “Haul” post or Youtube video out of them. Lol! Well, you will definitely see more of this collection here on the blog. Stay tuned! 🙂

For this look, I kept the accessories to a minimal and let the little summer dress speaks for itself.

My new favorite prints shoes were perfect on the dress. I think I’m loving these heels a little too much, but hey who can blame me? 🙂 You can get similar ones here

Well, I hope you love this look as much as I do. I can’t wait to share the other pieces of the Victoria Bechkam Collection with you!

If you were lucky enough to get yourself a piece (or a few) of this collection before it was sold out, I would like to know what you think about it. As you can tell, I’m here for it! 🙂

Thank you for reading and have a fantastic day!

Meet Kechi Okwuchi … Her story will inspire you!

The emotion behinds this video, the story of this plane crash survivor will have you in tears! It’s a blessing and a gentle reminder to us all, that we should never take life for granted and every single day on earth it’s another opportunity for us to be grateful and strive to be and do the best we can. What’s your excuse? What’s my excuse? Every single ounce of breath that we take is sufficient enough to get us going and dream our wildest dreams.

Out of 109 people, Kechi was one of the only 2 survivors of the plane crash that had occurred on December 10th, 2005 in Nigeria. A tragedy that the nation has never forgotten. Even though doctors gave Kechi little to no chance of surviving her injuries, after numerous (about 70 in total) chirurgical interventions, Kechi fought hard for her life and pulled through! A miracle if you ask me. She now lives in Houston Texas with her mother, and is living a fulfilling life.

What we should take away from this story, beside the fact that miracles do happen every day, is that no matter what may have happened, no matter what we may be going trough, as dark as the future may look, as long as we’re still alive and well, we should never give up on our dreams and goals. We should always cultivate a mentality and attitude of gratefulness… Remember, it could be far worse. This young lady has been through a lot (and I’m sure she still is), but her courage, her perseverance, her faith, and desire to make lemonade out of the lemons life has given her took her where she is today… and where she’s going!

I’m living you today with this message in the hope that, Kechi’s story will move you and give you hope, and inspire you to go for that whatever dream you have deep in you. Watch the video below and see how she stuns the judges at America Got talents! 🙂 Enjoy!

Kechi is an inspiration for us all, and I admire her for her strength, determination and performance! I wish her the absolute best in life!

Thank you for reading!

Love, light, and blessings!

An Essay By My Daughter | Moonshot Thinking

When I first read this essay that my 12 year-old middle schooler recently wrote for one of her assignments, I knew I had to share it… Not because I wanted to flaunt my kid’s intelligence or anything, but mostly because I appreciate her openness to life… and the mindset it takes to make it. Also, what kind of mother would I be if I wasn’t super-duper proud of my baby!? 😀  – And as you can imagine, with her beautiful smile on, she said “Yes!”, when I asked for her permission to share this with my readers.

It’s undeniable to me (and her dad) that my daughter is very smart and does great in school, but this moment of pride has more to do with her ability to smilingly write an essay on the subject of Moonshot thinking referring to the inspirations she sees around herself while remaining true to her own beliefs, and shortcomings as a pre-teen. Her words are put in a simple manner that gives you a basic idea of what she’s trying to get across. Take a look…

Moonshot Thinking by Pearla-Lynn Teko-Folly.

What is it?

I think that moonshot thinking is thinking beyond what you can do. Trying harder than you thought. Not giving up on what you believe can happen. Not letting go of your ideas.

Examples of Moonshot thinking.

Some examples of moonshot thinking are like when those men said “We’re going to put this guy on the moon!”. That shows moonshot thinking, because they didn’t know if it would actually work, so they said that because they believed that they could do it.

Who are moonshot thinkers?

One person that I think represents moonshot thinking is my mom, because she wanted to create her own fashion blog and an online clothing store, and she didn’t know if she was able to do it. Now, because she believed and worked hard for what she wanted, she has two of her own websites: her fashion blog and her online shop. She’s an entrepreneur and is working hard to grow her business. She is also a motivational speaker and she styles and decorates houses and plans parties. That’s because she didn’t give up, but she kept believing that she could and now she did.

Why is it important?

Because if you believe in yourself and try harder you will be a moonshot thinker; and if you are a moonshot thinker, you will see how that affects you and makes things easier for you in life, because you can think and plan further ahead, then you will finally reach what you were thinking or planning because you didn’t give up and didn’t stop believing.

How am I a moonshot thinker?

I don’t really think I am a moonshot thinker yet, but my parents inspire me to work on it; because I don’t really think ahead or farther in some situations. Like sometimes, I just like to think about what is going to happen later or after something else happens. For example if I were to go somewhere, I would probably be thinking about what is going to happen, what we would do because sometimes when I think ahead it makes me feel like it actually is going to happen but sometimes, I don’t because stuff don’t always happen the way you planned it to go.

Isn’t this precious!? An innocent mind like being so far ahead of what we, adults are trying to accomplish today. I cannot be more proud of my baby-girl, because this mindset this early in life will literally give her wings!!!

On a parting note, let me remind you, as I just noticed myself reading her essay, kids do see and hear what happens around the house. They see, notice, and have their parents’ attitudes and aptitudes! They see that passions, the belief to fuel them up, and the hard work that support them will ultimately pay off.

What’s your attitude around the house? What’s your attitude in times of crises? What are you showing and teaching your kids!?

Happy Monday and thanks for stopping by.
