How to make a delicious Flan

Flan is one delicious, nutritional and an easy to make dessert! It’s
a typical caramel custard-based dessert in the Spanish and Latin
American population! Growing up, It was one of my mom’s favorite
dessert choices for the family; and I quickly got to learn how to make
it myself. It was no surprise that my family, especially the kiddos
would ask for this from time to time; and truth be told, I love it as much as they do! 🙂 This is a rich dessert made with milk, eggs, vanilla, and sugar… which I believe is best consumed in moderation.

Would you like to try this, if you haven’t already? Here’s the recipe:

  • 1 cup of sugar (white or brown)
  • 1 can (12 fluid ounces) evaporated milk
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 4-6 eggs
  • 1 Tbs pure vanilla extracts

Preparation: 20 min | Cooks in 1 hour

1– Preheat oven to 350 degree F

2– In a medium sauce pan, over a medium-low heat, melt the sugar; stir
gradually and consistently to make a liquefied brown syrup. Pour the
syrup in a baking pan or a flanela (a baking pan especially made for
flan). Let it stand for 10 minutes.

3– Blend the remaining ingredients together (eggs, milk, vanilla
extra). You can choose to whisk them.

4– Pour the mixture into the baking pan over the caramel. You can opt for small round baking pans for individual servings.

5– Put the pan containing the mixture in a water bath. Water bath is
made with a large pan filled with water. Make sure the pan is not filled up to the top so it doesn’t pour over once the pan with the mixture sits in it.

6– Put the pan sitting in the water bath in the oven.

7– bake for 1 hour and let it stand for 10 minutes.

8– Serve and enjoy!

Cover the pan with foil if not using a flanela (which normally comes with a top)
⁃       Be patient when stirring up the sugar, and make sure you use medium-low
heat and stir consistently
⁃       Use more eggs for more density
⁃       Use a knife to separate the edges from the pan and turn it over in
a serving plate.
⁃       Bath water helps keep the moisture in the flan.
⁃       Serve with fruits of choice or cream.
⁃       Keep refrigerated if any left… there usually isn’t! 🙂

Enjoy the delicacy!!! 😉
