Red Floral Prints Spring Dress

red-floral-prints-spring-target-dress-hypnozglam

Have you ever taken pictures for your blog or content and then decide that, that’s not it… this is not making the cut? Happens to me sometimes!

However, we must know that people don’t want perfection, they want honesty. They want authenticity. We have a habit of only wanting to share perfect pictures and the best six seconds of our day, because we think that is what people expect from us. It could be what some of them expect, but I can guarantee you that not all of them expect perfection. Excellence, maybe but not perfection.

While nothing is wrong with being perfect on the grid all the time, there’s also nothing wrong with showing vulnerability… When I am not at my best, I tell myself that things don’t have to be perfect to be meaningful, they just need to be honest.

I shot this look a few months ago, and I didn’t think I like how the outfit has turned out; so I decided not to post it; but looking at the photos now, I have to remind myself that it’s not about perfection. It’s about how I felt wearing that dress, the confidence I exude, the story behind the dress…. and you know what? I felt damn good! The confidence? You tell me. What do you see? The story behind the dress? well, there’s really none. I just fell in love with the print of dress and couldn’t really beat the price as it was on sale and voila! 🙂

Style wise, I went for these red ankle boots for a bold and unexpected look, and I think it turned out great. What do you think?

How to style your ankara maxi dress this Spring | Dedicated to my mother

black-multicultural-spring-maxi-dress

TGIF, beauties!

I love this beautiful maxi dress; and I think it’s perfect for spring and summer, especially now that we get to go outside again. In all transparency though, this maxi dress has been sitting in my closet for over a year now. The dress was sent to me as part of a collaboration I had with one of my favorite small business owners and black designers here in the USA. I was going through a rough period at the time, as I just lost my mother and I wasn’t at the right place in this dark moment of my life.

Ever since my mother’s passing, I was waiting for the right moment to style this dress; and whenever I decided to wear it, it will take me back to those sad days of my mom’s passing and I will put it away.  – I’m grateful for Nomose Couture for being so understanding and patient.-  It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I decided to let go of that feeling of commemorating the death of my mother, with anything that reminds me of  the time I got the news, if that makes sense… that I took out this dress and styled it for a fun photoshoot. What’s really humbling and amazing is that this dress does not only remind me of the passing of my mom, but it also reminds me of her beauty, her style, her “joie de vivre”, and some of the fashion conversations she and I had when she was still of this world.

Like most Ouest-African women, my mother loved bold and beautiful African prints. Even though she had some of the most beautiful and stylish European outfits and ensembles, her wardrobe was mostly consisted of prints like the ones of this dress, and her style is very regal and elegant. She loved and rocked off-the-shoulder styles like no one and she made everything look so beautiful and regal on her tall and curvy frame.

My mother’s beauty and sense of style was one of the many things people admire about her! My mother was a very beautiful lady with an impeccable style, but her inner beauty largely surpassed her outer beauty, and she was a force to reckon with. I pray to become as half as the beautiful and impactful human my mother was; and it’s really a struggle for me writing about her in the past tense.

Wearing this beautiful lady-like Ankara maxi dress that my mother would definitely wear reminds me so much of her and has a big part in the woman she made me into today. She would have approved of this dress on me, and told me how beautiful I looked. She used to have a strong opinion on some of my Western styles (high-knee boots for example 😀 ), and I would try to convince her on how this is okay where I live and how she can’t tell me what to wear anymore. 🙂 She would say something like: “You Americans… plus you always have your own style, even though you learned a lot from me…” 🙂 ; and it’s fair to say that I got it from my mama!

At the dawn of Mother’s Day, (and every day for that matter) I miss my mother more than anything, and would do anything to have her with me.

Dear Mama, this outfit post is dedicated to you, and this bouquet is for you!

I love and miss you dearly!!!

Denim Casual Chic with BESI SPORTS

denim-casual-besi-sport-walmart-fabletics

Nothing like a good old denim look. Would you agree? I know I’m not one to share a lot of denim looks on the blog, but I certainly do wear them; not on a regular occasions, but I do. When I styled this look, my kids thought I should wear denim and converses more often, because according to them, I look like a teenager. I will take that. 🙂

Denim are so versatile and the stylings are obviously endless. When my friend at BESI SPORTS sent me this long sleeve shirt, I thought about ways that I can style it to make a nice statement. Now you know, I’m a little extra when it comes to my style, but I didn’t want to overpower the shirt, so a nice denim look with some nice converse to keep it sporty chic was the plan. The weather was on the cooler side, so sporting this cute khaki bomber jacket was a nice addition that tied up the look together nicely.
I had fun shooting this look, because my kids were there hyping me up and who doesn’t need their own cheerleading crew to keep them going!?

That’s the little story behind this outfit, but I also wanted to leave you with a gentle reminder I shared with my Instagram community the other day… (You can check it out here)

“It’s not always easy, but you have to make it a priority to put yourself at the top of your to do-do list. You cannot pour from an empty cup. If you’re exhausted, it’s obvious that your health, your business and your entourage will be affected. So take time to rest and to rejuvenate. I’ve had a lot on my plate lately, but I’m not complaining. Instead, I make it a priority to remember to rest and unplug from time to time; and this #MothersDay weekend, I’m going to be doing more of that. Are you taking the necessary rest you need?”

As always, thank you for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

How to wear black puffer coat and faux-leather shorts in Spring

beautiful-puffer-coat-faux-leather-styleHello beauties,

This outfit was shot a while ago, during the wintertime season, and I didn’t get to share it on the blog. Even though Spring is in full effect in most part of the world, I believe you can still use this outfit as an inspiration on those brisk and cold Spring evenings. Another option will be to switch up the puffer coat with a lighter jacket, and the turtleneck sweater with a nice shirt. This faux-leather short is super cute and comfortable, very soft to the touch, and forgiving. Faux-leather is a huge trend this season, and I believe it’s here to stay. I have gotten myself these shorts in two colors and I love them both! You can see how I styled the other one in this post.

This outfit gives me a regal vibe in a playful and classy yet sexy way. The green pops out nicely against my skin tone and this color combination is certainly one that catches your attention.

I would wear this outfit to a date night with friends to enjoy some good music and food, to a fashion show… and whatnot. 🙂

What do you think of this outfit? Would you wear it?

Cozy Chic in Oversized Pullover Hoodie Jogger set

beautiful-nude-stone-joggers-set-hypnozglam

Hello beauties,

How are we even saying goodbye to April already!? This year too is going fast, but again I guess it’s been the new normal for some time now.

I declare May to be a happy month for us all. It’s definitely a celebratory month for our family, as my oldest daughter is turning sixteen in a few days; and this year her birthday falls on Mother’s Day, so yes double the celebration!  🙂

Now let’s talk about this oversized pullover hoodie jogger set. Ever since we have quarantined, we have been seeing a huge trend of loungewear, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. They have become the new alternative uniforms to the typical jeans uniforms. They are comfy, cute, and easy to throw on. They are perfect for your everyday activities, in a casual chic way; and they can be worn with heels, sneakers, boots, pumps… you name it. I have added a few lounge wears to my closet, myself, this year alone; and I plan on adding some more! 😉 This beautiful set is from a company called Femme Luxe based in the UK. When they reached out to collaborate with me, I knew I was going to try this jogger set; and I’m glad I did. I love the color; and the luxe oversized fit makes the jogger extra comfy; and it has pockets! This set is definitely a keeper, and I’m showing you in this post how I dressed it up with my white booties and trench coat, and also giving you another cozy chic option with my sandals. Which one do you prefer?

Off I go.

XO!
