Celebrating another year of blogging

On August 1st of 2014, I braved all sentiments of fear and the unknown, mustered up my courage and hit “Publish” for the very first time on my blog. You can read all about it here. – It’s been a relatively long journey, but each year brought me closer to my dreams and goals.

There were times when I asked myself the million dollars question: Is it all worth it? The challenges, the hard work, the investments, the critics, the No’s, the late night sleep, etc… and every time the answer was a resounding “Yes!”. So here I am, celebrating another milestone.

If there’s one or maybe 2 things I will leave you with after reading this post, it’s to go after your dreams, no matter how hard, how little, or how ridiculous they seem. You will never know how far you can go if you give up or don’t give it a try.

There will be naysayers (read this post), but their opinions aren’t your business; Or you could be your very own demise (Read this post)… That been said, Be good and true to yourself, know what you want, work for it, and be consistent.

There’s no elevator to success, so yes you must do the work, whether it’s in the physical or the spiritual. Be prepared to do the work and most importantly, be prepared to face challenges. Oh and one more thing! Do not compare your journey to others’.

We are all on different paths and divine assignments. It may take one year for you to get to where you want to be, but it could take 10 years to the other person. A lot goes into it; and each person’s definition of success is different.

Be inspired by someone you like or whose journey you’re following. Heck! Reach out and ask for advice if you must, but remember that comparison is the thief of joy; and nothing good comes out of it.

Believe and do the work!

Designer SpotLight – Akofa Designs

Hello beauties,

The “Designer Spotlight” series is back and I’m very pleased to introduce to you a one of a kind, hardworking, and talented designer. Akofa Kagni is a young and charming lady from Togo (West Africa), residing in Los Angeles, CA.

Despite living in the US, Akofa makes constant trips to her birth-land to procure the materials and ensure that her customers are provided with the best and most trending fabrics from her motherland; fabrics which mainly constitute her urban African designs. Her products range from both men and women unique apparels to fabulous accessories.

One of the awesome things about blogging is the ability to introduce to my readers great products and services they may have never heard of before or anywhere else. This post isn’t sponsored in any way, but I had the opportunity to know and learn more about Akofa and her designs; and I just had to brag about her to the world! 🙂 I have nothing but great things to say about this young lady and her work; but don’t take my word for it. Check out some of her collections on her website . Not only is she a talented designer and entrepreneur, she’s also a philanthropist who essentially help fund the education of a group of young girls who also receive appropriate training in making some of the products she designs. How awesome is that!

One of my foci as a blogger and content creator is to share inspirational and valuable information with you, my readers; information that improves or increases the value of your fabulous life! This being said, I hope bringing back this series where I showcase new and upcoming designers (or entrepreneurs) will contribute to adding value to your day and life while shining the spotlight onto them! – Oh and remember, when you support small business, you’re supporting a dream!

Lots of love,

Perfectly imperfect | Body Positivity

When I posted the above selfie, I’ve received great feedback; and who doesn’t appreciate positive feedback? Even though I always welcome constructive criticism, positive comments and feedback, undeniably, give a warm and appreciative feeling. – If I’m being honest with you, this post was totally unplanned. I shot this casual look on a weekend running errands with my husband. I liked my simple and cute outfit, but I didn’t like the pictures, (except this cute little selfie that didn’t show my whole body). Why? you asked… Because… well, I thought I look fat in this outfit. I wasn’t going to post any other pictures beside the selfie on my social media pages, especially not on my blog. I was obviously concerned about the judgement and criticism I may receive… Yet, fast-forward to this morning, here I am sharing a whole head to toe picture of this look with the world!

This is me getting over my body consciousness and being vulnerable in the hope that this inspires someone out there. Isn’t it funny (and irritating) how sometimes you find yourself being proud of the little results you are seeing and the next day you’re beating yourself up, because a certain outfit (or situation) actually made you realize that you’re rather stagnant or going backward in your journey? I can totally relate!

A few days ago, I was all smile in front of my mirror pinpointing to my husband and kids the transformations I’m seeing on my body, and how some of my clothes are starting to fit again; and just a few days late, it’s that same me complaining about how I look fat in the picture and that I believe I gained more weight. Whether the latter is true or not, what is one to do? … And this is for all my ladies struggling with weight loss or any other situations in life! Keep working toward your goals and seek help if needed, but never give up or dwell on the things that aren’t working. Some things take time; and it’s okay. The end result, whether it’s long or short-term, is the definite reward that should keep you motivated and keep you going. Just remember that the goal is to be consistent in whatever positive action you’re taking toward your goals. Keep pushing, you will not lose.

You can’t go back and make a brand new start, but you can start now and make a brand new ending.

Hello and happy new month, friends!

I Just can’t wrap my head around the fact that the year is closing to its end! To be honest with you, each and every month that has passed feels to me like it was just yesterday. The year has flown by so fast and there seemed to be a lot going on. I’ve got really busy with life, celebrated some good moments; and I can only be grateful for it all. October was my birthday month (read the dedicated post about it HERE) and I also got to celebrate two of my favorite people: my mom and my baby girl. They were both born on the same date (over half a century apart 🙂 ); and it’s such a special day for us. I shared a few pictures of my little diva on instagram… If you’re not following me there yet, you oughtta now! 🙂

Well, today’s post is a little recap of my style “escapades” this past month, but I also want to share with you  a word of wisdom. As we’re stepping into this month of November and getting closer and closer to a new year; remember that even though you can’t go back and make a brand new start, you can start now and make a brand new ending.

Don’t just focus on what can’t be done, what you can’t afford, or what you can’t do! Change your focus to what you CAN do, what resources you have, and what step you CAN take to move forward. This is as much of a “note to self” as a whisper of motivation. Admittedly, I’ve had to learn this the hard way a few times over in my life; and that is something I’m working on bettering myself at.

Everything doesn’t have to be perfect. You just need to start and you can better yourself up along the way. I’ve wasted a few years in overthinking and overanalyzing goals and projects that could have seen the light of day already, and who knows where it would have taken me or maybe become that “big new thing” today… 😀 Am I regretting it? No, simply because it won’t change anything… and the show must go on. Or maybe it just wasn’t God’s timing. Am I planning on taking more actions and stop overanalyzing things and waiting on everything to be perfect before I make my moves? Definitely yes!

Wanting it, is not enough. Dreaming about it is not enough. Talking about it is most certainly not enough. Only actions will propel you forward! It’s the one commonality across the lives of legends, game-changers, and movers and shakers. They decided, then they acted!

Where you are today is probably not a “coup du hasard” like we say in French, but where you want to be tomorrow can definitely be a perfectly calculated equation!

Together, let’s take actions toward our goals!

I hope this new month brings you lots of love and light!

Don’t Be Afraid To Fall – Don’t Be Afraid Of Change.

Fall is in full swing here now; and the temperature is dropping real fast! I’m starting to break into my Fall wardrobe; and according to the forecast we may be expecting our first batch of snow today! We are currently experiencing our first snow (showers) of the season. Boy, things are getting real serious! Ha!

Don’t get me wrong, I love autumn, and I even claimed it to be one of my favorite seasons of all seasons… And yes, I still stand by that statement. 🙂

Truth is, as much as we wish or pray for changes, we are not always ready to welcome them. Simply because, sometimes we are so much at ease with the present (in this instance, the sunny days of summer) that when we’re starting to see changes (even good ones) pertaining to different scenarios, we have all these doubts, feelings and thoughts arising.

Is it going to be ok? Is it going to be too cold? Isn’t it too good to be true? Is it going to be exactly what I wished for….. So many unanswered questions, that may leave us with the sentiment of discomfort or fear, fear of the unknown or the uncertainty.

Whatever we experience in life, we must chose to flow with it, because it makes it so much easier and interesting. We must be flexible to changes happening in life. The more accepting we are of changes, the easier that feels.

Change is inevitable, and unpredictable. In order to live a stress-free life, we must chose to accept the things we cannot change and allow for positive things to unfold in our life.

Change is a natural aspect of life. Change is a sign of life, and life is a series of change. Change can be a good thing and we must be ready to embrace it.

fall-inspiration-outfitTherefor, change is also about taking risks and not being afraid to fall or fail, because the risks you decide not to take today can be one decision away from a totally different life.

What risks are you taking today? What changes are you making, or are happening in your life? Whatever that is, if you can’t do anything about it, embrace it.

Don’t be afraid to fall
